Poem
Memory & SurrenderWhat The River Forgets
The river does not keep an archive of stones
it had to bend around in spring.
It does not hold a grievance against the winter ice
that locked its voice beneath the ridge.
It moves by giving up its shape to the land,
finding the low ground,
the quiet hollows,
the patient path through granite.
Perhaps wisdom is nothing more
than knowing when to stop arguing with the bank,
and letting the current
carry you toward the wider sea.
Author Note
A reflection on letting go of arguments that no longer need to be won.
