Craft & SolitudeNotes From An Old Desk
Here is the grain where an elbow rested
through winters of uncertain drafts.
Here is the ink mark where a sentence stumbled
and was struck out three times in red.
The desk does not ask if the book will sell,
or if the critic will approve the verse.
It only asks for the weight of your hands
and the honesty of your attention.
Author Note
On the companionship of a solid piece of wood and an honest pen.
