Notes drafted beside the canal
Walked down to the Upper Ganges Canal towpath just as the sun cleared the eastern treetops. The water moves with deceptive quiet: immense volume sliding silently beneath the historic brick arches, carrying snowmelt from the Himalayas toward the southern plains.
Sat on a weathered bench with a small pocket notebook and a brass fountain pen, jotting down fragments for an upcoming essay on patience. The canal never rushes, yet everything along its banks is nourished by its passage.
We spend so much modern energy frantically accelerating our output, terrified that if we do not shout into the digital void, our work will be forgotten. Yet real enduring depth requires only steady, uninterrupted movement in one faithful direction. Returned to the house with cold fingers, warm tea, and two pages of clean thoughts.
